l think some of us younger F1 fans grew up in the era of Schumi domination, and never saw Senna race before. But we keep hearing ''Aryton Senna'' in the commentaries. l know he died tragically, the best and last driver to die in a F1 accident. Please enlighten us young F1 fans, what is so good about him that he is also spoken with god-like reverence?

He was s m o o o o t h! and that means fast. He was aggressive when need be and conservative when it was appropriate. And he was the RAIN MEISTER!!! Nobody has been better.RIP Aryton!

He was blindingly quick and gobbled up pole positions like a kid eating candy. He could not be touched in the rain. Amazing race driver.

Ayrton Senna was a breath of fresh air for F1 in the 80 is & early 90's. A very spiritual man with a special character who was a master of wet weather racing.
He was exciting to watch & had his fair share of racing incidents that divided fans all over. For me Donington 1993 stands out coming from 4th on the grid to lead after several corners in the wet, plus his battles with Prost & Mansell had u on the edge of ur seat. The cars had little electronics back so driver skill showed more than it does today, plus the races were memorable for moments that u would not expect like Mansell giving him a ride at the British Grand Prix in 1991 after Senna ran out of fuel on the last lap, (Mansell gave him a lift to the pits on the parade lap with Senna hanging onto the side!) showed two rivals that had respect for one another. Something u just do not see nowadays.

But believe me & a few others who have answered this question, he IS worth the adulation & he set the bar for every driver since. F1 was not boring when he was around.

Without exception there has never been a driver who had better control of the car, unfortunately until his last race.

He used to glide around the track conserving his tyres, engine & fuel, because in those days there was no refuelling. But when he had to he would throw the car into impossible overtaking moves & actually come out on top. When he was being attacked by another driver he would defend his position as if his life depended on it.

He was a joy to watch, & despite being the most talented driver of his time he was always down to earth & as gracious in victory as he was humble in defeat.

These were the glory days when races were decided by drivers not tactics, strategies ans pit-stops. Imagine no pit lane speed limit & an average pit stop time of around 2.5 seconds.

If u want to see what l am banging on about l suggest u watch a video of the Senna vs. Mansell battle at Monaco in 1992. Mansell had a comfortable 25 second lead when he had to make an unscheduled pit stop due to a puncture. The last three laps were so close that at some points u can only see one car, the pair finished with a difference of 0.215 seconds, we will, unfortunately, never again see racing like this.
