Matrix: No way he could have earned what he makes in NASCAR. You're joking right. F1 stars earn far far more money than NASCAR drivers. Williams were well able to pay montoyas wages back then and anyway Jeff himself said he never once received an off to drive in F1. l do rate Jeff much higher than most NASCAR drivers though.

That is an unfair comparison. Different series. Different cars. l know for a fact that Jeff Gordon is capable of competing in Formula One. He drove a Williams BMW some years ago when Juan Pablo Montoya was still with the Williams team. It was a promotional event on SpeedTV called ''Trading Paint''. Frank Williams & the engineers in his team said that if Jeff was given a proper 3 day test, he would have posted equal times with JPM. Frank even wanted to sign him, but Jeff has an airtight contract with Hendricks Motorsports. Not to mention that there was no way that Frank Williams could have paid Jeff Gordon anything near what he makes in NASCAR.

Edit: grrrrrr. l know F1 drivers make more money on average, but Jeff makes a ridiculous amount of money here in America when u factor in his salary & endorsement money. There is no way Frank could have matched that. l know what the hell was said back then, so l know what l am talking about.

Secondly. l said Frank wanted to sign him! Read & comprehend. That is not the same as saying Frank offered him a deal. Like l said, Frank could not even come close to the salary that Jeff demands in NASCAR. You have to realize that The Williams F1 team is a privateer team, so it lacks the funding of major teams like Honda, McLaren, or Ferrari. Not to mention that back at the time of that exhibition the tension between BMW & Williams had already started to fester, leading to their eventual split, with BMW buying the Sauber team & wind tunnel.

matrix is spot on, l watched the episode myself & they were amazed that gordon was within 1 sec of the qualifying grid at the track with only 3 laps, not 3 hours not 3 days .. 3 .. laps in an f1 car, gordon was ''solicited'' buy williams as as well as the former BAR team & 2 unnamed others,

but to answer the question lewis hamilton is far better than jimmy johnson, start writing letters to Top Gear see if they can jimmy johnson over there to to the reasonably priced car test its probably the only way to tell
