According to an article l read, Hendrick Motorsports had a ''modest'' layoff, including Jimmie Johnson is spotter.How many other people got laid off at Hendrick in this ''modest'' layoff?There have been rumors of huge layoffs across the board on NASCAR teams after Homestead, but you would think that Hendrick, with 3 of the sports biggest stars on board and 4 fully sponsored teams, would have been immune to this.
Just to clarify...he was given notice that he would be let go AFTER the end of the season.

l did hear JR Motorsports laid off 15 last week. Just awful times we are in right now.

They are getting ready for the end of the season. l think they may have laid off A spotter. He has more than one.

What is there for a spotter to do in the off season? Practice?

The spotter will stay on through Homestead.

l worry about Hendrick Motor Sports. Rick is main business is car dealerships which have been hit hard by the energy crisis and now the economy. Sponsorships have brought in over 160 million in 2008 but Hendrick spent over 200 million this past year. They will have to cut back considerably until cars start selling again.

l wonder why they did that for? Most consider a spotter to be right up there with a crew chief in terms of on track/in race importance.

It is not about the money, Hendrick makes enough money in one day to pay for any one person is yearly salary. Layoffs are just a good excuse to hire someone who is willing to do the job cheaper, or get rid of someone who might not be a team player.

Yeah not a surprise. This will be the 3rd spotter for Jimmie since he started in 2002. Steevie Reeves took over for someone prior last year and last only two years. HMS will find someone that can do the job just fine if not better. My only concern is who were others that were let go.

No their not Immune. Last week Tony Eury Sr. had to lay off 15 people from the Nationwide team. It should be interesting to see what happens during the off season. But NASCAR needs to look at changing something to fix some of the problems. Start with small subtle changes, wait see how that goes. Then make the big changes in a few years when we have a better economy.

l doubt that. l would think it would be casey mears spotter after all the crashes he has had. Johnson is his best driver.

At this point of the seaso (2 events left) l do not think a member of a trem that is in this position would be let go until after the season,if le go at all.
