Why on the entry list is there always a driver with a car number thats in triple digits but it ends up always being double digits

l have no idea, l have always wondered that. When they are on the track its only two numbers. l would love to know the answer.

This occurs alot with part time teams. The reason is that the car submitting the entry has a number thats already been assigned to another team. Therefore on the initial entry, NASCAR adds a 1 in front of it (or a 2,3 etc depending on how many teams wanted to use that #). Now if the team that was given that number at the beginning of the year does not submit an entry for that same race, then the car entered can run that two digit number. Otherwise they would have to use a different number.
