It is because they want to 'Make Cars Green' and l suppose that a few small green stripes on the tyres is a start, who knows what they will colour green next.

Seriously, they seem to think that it will draw attention to the efforts made by F1 to become greener like KERS etc.

If you burn a bit of green rubber onto the track it fools the environmentalists into thinking the cars are laying turf!
