Women are allowed to participate in F1 but for many years men have dominated the sport. Throughout the whole history of F1 there ahve only been 5 female F1 drivers should there be more?

Good question Cookie. Perhaps it is not question of ''should'' there be women F1 drivers. If a woman grows through the ranks & proves she has got what it takes to do the job, l am sure there'd be an opportunity for her at the top of the sport.

Some sports r more mentally & physically suited to a particular gender & it would seem that traditionally, motor-racing is a sport that men have the stronger leanings towards.

It could of course be a gender raising issue as well, as it is usually the Dad who wants to coach & encourage the son to go for it. Although, l recall reading that Alonso is father tried very hard to get his daughter into karting but she just was not interested so the kart was passed down to the younger brother Alonso - & wallah!

If there is a woman good enough who can compete on equal terms then fine, but historically all the women F1 drivers have sucked.

l agree with David, frankly there are not any good enough, yes there are some good female race drivers but none at an F1 talent level.

If they have the mental and physical strength to do so, then why not?

only if they are good enough. F1 should be about the best drivers, not setting any artificial ''quotas'' for male and female drivers.

But maybe there should be more done to encourage girls to take up karting and then racing.
