l thought we have the US Grand Prix every year.

It is not banned. Nobody wants to pay the outrageous fees to host a Formula 1 race in the U.S.

F1 has not been banned in the US. The past few years Indianapolis Motor Speedway has hosted the US Grand Prix. For 2008, however, FIA did not include the USGP on the schedule, nor will be on the schedule for next year. l believe there is a dispute between IMS and the FIA over the sanctioning fee so the race was dropped. FIA also pulled the Grand Prix of Canada from the F1 schedule so there will no North America stop for F1 next year.

after 2005 debbacle.things didnt work really well between FOA..and the authority which held race at US..

also l dont like INdianapolis circuit very much...its boring flat..i would have rather gone in for an complete oval.rather then the mix of those uninspiring chicanes..etc..
Bernie is instead goint to have an Indian GP instead of Indianapolis..;-)

The US has hosted F1 a number of times throughout the years, with Indianapolis being the last host.

In 2008, Formula 1 did not race in the US due to requiring additional sanctioning fees. Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) management (including Tony George) went through extensive conversations with FIA management to host the race again, but from what it sounds like, Bernie E. wanted too much money.

What makes it more interesting is that Bernie E. is too adamant about wanting government funding for F1 races. Most other countries have budgeted monster $$$ to host F1 races, & he has been very disappointed by the lack of support the US government gives to F1. Remember - IMS is a family-owned organization. They have *NEVER* asked for a single dime of taxpayer support to host events at the track - which is extremely unique - and/or to perform track upgrades, infrastructure, etc. Bernie E. also hated the fact that it appears as though there is more advertisement regarding the Indy 500 & Brickyard 400 races as there is for F1. And not only that, there is very limited amounts of advertisements outside of the Indianapolis/Midwest for the F1 race in Indianapolis. He was downright *peeved* not seeing any race ads when he visited NYC & the East Coast prior to the USGP's.

Now - as for it is future. I've always heard that if F1 cannot succeed at Indianapolis, it cannot succeed in the US. l find it rather frustrating that the manufacturers WANT to race in the US, the drivers like the race track (flat as it may be - it is still a technically-challenging course, esp. using the Turn 1 banked corner), it is UNQUESTIONABLY F1 is largest crowd, & it was really starting to come into it is own (2005 removed, of course - what a disaster). One other bad point is that F1 has now dropped the Canadian GP as well in Montreal, which means *NO* F1 races in North America. FIA liked the idea of making only one cross-Atlantic trip for multiple races, & would frown upon having a single race in North America - equipment shipment costs r astronomical. So - without a 2nd race, it will be a tough row to hoe to get the USGP back in today is economy.

IMS Management (ie, Tony George) has stated they r still VERY MUCH interested in bringing F1 back, so long as the sanctioning fees r negotiated. Over the next 3 years, the speedway will be celebrating its Centennial, & what better way than to have the best races in the best race series, & that includes F1. Personally, l would be overjoyed if IMS were to host the Indy 500, the Brickyard 400, the USGP, & the MotoGP races during the Centennial years (2009-2011). However, an arrogant FIA ruler (ie. Bernie E.) may prevent this from ever happening again. Keep hope up that Indy comes back onto the schedule.

It is never been banned. Just removed from the calendar because of Bernie is greed.
