What about awarding points to the person who sets the fastest lap during the race....like 1 point....

like it will make things more exciting....like the front runners like after seting up a big gap...they tend to close down on the closing stages of the lap..to save the engine,tyres and some times to avoid traffic..

also it will give a reason and motivation to race for the back markers or ppl who are not in top 8....

we may see new strategies being created and also some ppl in the back doing some qualifying laps....

on the whole...it may make F1 more intresting.....with cars on the back going in for low fuel load and trying or attempting to set fastest laps and trying to gain points...!!..

Like Montzemolo ,the presedent of newly formed FOTA ..was thinking about increasing the points the race winner gets ....i think making him work harder to earn those extra points would be an good idea..!!

This will ensure that Kimi will get atleast 10 free points every season as he has the habit of setting the fastest lap of most races. But realistically, have these fastest laps changed anything in this season? (If this system was there, he would still be in the championship hunt)

And again, whats the interesting part in seeing teams run a lap of glory out of sight?

The point system in F1 has financial implications too. It would not be advisable to tamper it with sideshows.

It favours whoever has the best car and they already get favoured enough.

How about points for whoever makes up most places in the race? This would give the guys near the back something to aim for.

With all of the complaints going on at the present time, against Lew Hamilton and his alleged aggressive driving (yeah right!), l doubt that making F1 more interesting by giving additional points for the fastest laps is a goer at all.

It would seem that a number of the boys just could not hack the pace! lol

This already happens at IRL, and not only to the fastest lap to the racer that stay more laps in first position during the race too.

l think that the pole position should win a extra point too.

do not you think that will encourage teams to take unnecessary risks and endanger the life of a driver? and besides, how many times have you seen a driver from the back of the grid post the fastest time of the race?
