This is a serious question, I am not here to make fun of you NASCAR fans.

l live in England, I've heard of the word NASCAR but never knew what it was associated with.

Now that I've just discovered more about it, from Wikipedia and Q&As from other users, the main theme seems to revolve around turning left.

Why is that?

Thank you

LOL, do not really know the answer as to why always left, but it does involve an oval shaped track, travelling in anti-clockwise direction.

The drivers position is on the left of the car, so when attempting the corner the lateral g-force is overcome more easily on the nearsie than on the offside.

!?

the track is just shaped in almost the same way as an Olympic running track. so they just have to go straight and left.

Not in Road Track Racing...

It is an American thing. Do l need to say more?

Would not it be fun though to stick a ''No left turn'' sign at the end of the straight bits?

It is just the way it is.

Besides if they turned right on an oval track, it would leave a mark.

NASCAR races at road courses (left & right turns) 5 times a year (including the Nationwide series), so it is not all about left turns.

And the F1 drivers who have made the switch to NASCAR have done terrible.proving that NASCAR drivers are the best drivers in the world.

Thats the only direction Nascar fans can go.

Its not always left turns in NASCAR. Thats why they race road courses as well. (including a now former F1 course).

NASCAR evolved from drivers (some moonshine runners) who eventually made their way to the short dirt tracks that dotted the Southern landscape in the 1940's. In the rural south, u may not have had much but u had a dirt track, an oval one. That is how it began.
It is not just turning left. The tracks r different with different levels of banking. NASCAR runs short tracks, which r 1/2 mile to 1 mile, some intermediate tracks at 1 1/2 miles & super speedways that r 2 miles or longer.
NASCAR is about the event. Oval racing allows more spectators to see more of the race. On some tracks such as Bristol, u can watch EVERYTHING that happens from ur seat.
NASCAR also is not something u just watch, it is something u have to experience. People either get it or they don't. As for me. l definitely get it.

Because Americans like simple sports, they put as much breaks into them so they can fit in their hotdog & burger breaks!

l laugh at the guy who said that the F1 drivers who try NASCAR have all been crap but how many have tried F1? Hardly any.you know why? Because they simply can not cut it & it is the truth, any person thinking NASCAR IS great just do not know what they're talking about. In motor history, the most important races on Earth have been dominated by Europeans, & even the Indy 500 has been won by a British guy recently. The first time Graham Hill raced in the Indy 500 he won it. And there have been numurous winners of American motor/auto racing who were European. They live too much in their American ''bubble'' that they have created for themselves. Same reason they think American football is so great even its basically Rugby with a bunch of pansies covered from head to toe in protection! They live in denial, just like they diss Football but do not realise that it is the most popular sport on planet Earth. But hey..what the hell, they make great doughnuts & that is good enough for me!!

The majority of the left turn rule is for the drivers to handle the Gforce in the turns. They do not look like it but on some tracks they r turning at 190+ MPG. It is also a safety issue keeping them on the other side of the wall if they were to hit it. If u notice of F1 & Indy cars, the driver is centered in the car keeping him safe on both left & right turns. And they r designed to resemble our american cars for fans to get more involved with the sport & the racing aspect. Hope this helps.

aunt bessie: the reason NASCAR drivers do not try to switch to F1 is because they're already in the greatest racing series in the world, that is why more & more F1 drivers r trying to defect to NASCAR. plus there is the fact that if they drove F1 they would have to move to some sh*thole country in europe & away from the land of plenty. what would be the upside there? the fact is juan pablo montoya won several F1 races & an F1 championship, yet he has proven to be nothing more than a field filler in NASCAR. that speaks volumes

They race in ovals, tri-ovals, road courses, one mile tracks, super speedways. Its not just about turning left.

if they tried to do any thing else, they'd plum, be lost.

One of many reasons is because it is a spectator sport. Everyone can sit in the stands and see the whole race.
