In your opinion, is NASCAR better now or when it was in the early 1990 is and late 90's. l think the races were better then, and racing now is a little less entertaining. Tell me what you think.

The racing was definitely better then. l have to watch the truck series to see the type of racing that turned me into a NASCAR fan in the first place.

Worse. Drivers were not so afraid to bump and rub back then. Not too mention, anywhere Dale Earnhardt was, there was something going on.

A little better by making it safer but their were better drivers back then

l enjoyed it alot better back in the day when their were not so many rules
Dale Sr was the best entertainment l have ever saw and he could piss everybody off that is why l liked him. Now days you got to play nice or you get send to the trailer more fun back then.

l do not have much to go on, as l did not really start following it until 2001, but just since that time l have seen lots of changes, some good, some not. l enjoy watching & going to the races rooting for.who else??..Dale, Jr!, but sometimes the races are downright boring. l was especially disappointed in the early Bristol race this year..YAWN..

Worse. It is too politically correct now. l was not a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan, but he was right about a lot of things.
He did not like restrictor plate racing, although he was good at it. l remember one time he said something like this:
''Take off the restrictor plates. If you're too scared to race, go find another job''.
Sorry l do not recall his exact words, but they were something like that. l feel the same way about the lucky dog rule & pit road speed limits. If you're too scared to be out there, find another job. l do not want to see anyone hurt, but it is a dangerous sport.

The NASCAR we're seeing now is a watered down version of what it once was.
l still love it, but it was definately better once upon a time ago..

l do not think l can add anything to what has already been said by Lynn and Winter Glory. What they have said is the same thing l think about it. l will be a Nascar fan as long as l live on this earth. But l bet in heaven(if l make it there lol (J/K) the racing will be remarkable.

BTW: Great question!

l think the racing was better then because drivers were not so restricted on what they say & do.Besides, you had hotheads like Earnhardt & Wallace that would put u in the wall in a heartbeat for a win.NASCAR today has too many rules & they do not allow the drivers' personalities to come through as much. They have tried to allow more this year, but they r still inhibited. As far as the competition goes, l think it is better today because they r more than just a handful of drivers that r capable of winning on any given week.If we could take the TYPE of racing from back then & mix it with the depth of competition we have now, that would be great!

More competetive now. In the 90 is there were literally only 6 or 7 drivers contending for wins. Now there are 25.

way worse
back then they was just getting ready to race

Definitely better then. l agree, the truck races are good ole racing. Lynn & Winter Glory pretty much said it all and l feel the same way. l wo not stop being a Nascar fan but l would like to see Nascar let em race.

It was better then but l still love it!

put it this way. it ''could'' be better now.
it has become rather pussified. But NASCAR is still the best motorsport on this planet.

The early 90s were wayyyyyyyy better

Absolutely ! They've ruined NASCAR with the COT and many of these ''innovation'' rules trying to copy WWE wrestling. It is a joke now. Plus, because they use only one tire supplier, tires from Goodyear have dictated races this year. What is up with that.

That is a great question! l think you're right that the racing has not been as great as it was back then. l think that NASCAR has gone more hollywood as they have tried to get exposure from the Chase, Talladega Nights, etc. l think back then it was just racing & they did not have to be fighting for ratings with other sports. l am a big fan of the COT for the safety reasons, but there r some races like Atlanta coming up this week that do not produce as great of racing as there used to be. Also, l have noticed a lot of finishes where the race winner would have like a six-second lead over 2nd place (some of the races won by Kyle & Carl r examples of that). l do not have a problem with the best car winning the race, but l would like to see more challenges for the win. l think the commentary was much better back than also. l am a big fan of the sport, but l think the racing today just does not compare to back then.

l just started watching NASCAR and l am loving it! Not sure what it was like back in the 90's.
Outlaw     Reply with quote
worse. too many regulations
ionus     Reply with quote
Hate to say it, but it is much worser. NASCAR and the COT have screwed up everything right now.

Da 90 is were awesome.

Heck give me back some 60's,70 is & 80 is Nascar was way better back then its gotten way to dang Hollywood, Corporate & $$$$$$$$$$, l loved those good ole days, when they were good ole boys out there beating & banging, hard core racing, ''Get outta my way, l got a race to win''. Madame Lynn & Winter Glory had some super comments as well, l am just older than they are.. l miss the great ole days of Nascar, but l keep watching & always a fan. Catch some of the Back in the Day episodes on Speed TV, u will see what l mean.

Go Dale Jr & Hms

Go Rays!!
Maxim     Reply with quote
Back in the day NA SCAR was about racing pure & simple they banged, bumped & flat out raced. Today it is different there r to many rules & the sport has taken a turn. Better or worse l am not sure. Nice thing is safety & since Dale Earnhardt died nobody else has, safety it key & l think that is a good thing. l do believe they should let the drivers & teams be able to show some emotion & let them act on it. l am not talking about brawling on the track but anger & attitude is a part of life & they should not be penalized for it, we r all human & they too should be allowed to be.

The racing was generally better then. NASCAR did not try to control the drivers nearly to the same extent they do now. Everything is more sponsor-driven now. That is worse.

So I'd say it is worse. l still really like NASCAR, but it is not as exciting as it used to be. The one thing that is better now is competition is much better.
