Its going to be great, but why the move in the other direction?

Better grip on DRY tar.

First in a line of cost cutting measures, the slick tyres will gain back the traction/ grip that the new aerodynamic limitations will reduce.
Next year all the fins behind the airbox,'' tusks'' on the front of the car and all the little aero aids will be banned in an attempt to reduce costs.
Also the rear wing will only be the width of the chassis from the inside of the rear wheels, the sort of size seen in the late 1980s.

The other changes to the rules next year mean that the cars will be creating less downforce and hence less grip so the return of full slicks will create more 'mechanical' grip to replace the loss. Hopefully there will be another benefit to the aerodynamic changes by creating less 'dirty' air behind the car and so allowing cars to be able to drive closer behind another car without losing grip and handling so hopefully allowing more overtaking.

Grooved tires were introduced as a means of controlling cornering speeds.
It is pretty painful to watch an F1 car on grooved tires & that was apparent to the FIA as well but they could see no better way at the time of controlling lap times.
With regulation changes that drastically cut down on downforce slick tires can now make a comeback, they r not only unlikely to lead to insane cornering speeds, they will increase mechanical grip & aid overtaking.
Lest we forget the tire wars r over, there is only one tire manufacturer involved & there wo not be any rapid tire development.
Single tire manufacturer is by choice of the FIA & not a result of disinterest in F1 on the part of tire manufacturers so it is long term.

It is time for a change, it is been what 10 years since grooved tyres were introduced and now have out stayed their welcome, now let the real racing begin. Again.

to correct a really bad decision made 10 years ago, all the decisions made after senna is death were bad for the long term, the cars are just as fast but less competitive, this is a fix in my opinion
