Well, if u have absolutely nothing, nada, then u simply can not do it. The truth is racing is all about money, & a lot more if u want to be competitive.

To give u a basic idea, say u just want to attend a race event, obviously u need a car or kart (competitive or not), sometimes u may need a trailer (to carry ur tires & tools/jack/stand/gears/etc), u need to pay for gas, the entry fee ($10 being the cheapest form of motorsport, $200 or $300 being the typical price for track days, that excludes membership fee for the club or the track), u need food, & maybe u need to spend a night at a hotel. Everything u do is involved with money.

If u just want to race, but have no money, u simply need to wait. Get a part-time job now so at least u will have some kind of money to have a taste of it, at the same time study hard in school & hope that one day u will get a good-paying job which allows u to be able to invest some serious money in ur car & ur driving. If you're in college, or about to, u might also want to look into ur school is sports car club or formula SAE club - these r very nice social groups to get u hooked up as a student.

If u really want to race & have no money to do it ur best course of action is to join a local team in ur area.As u help the team u join u will learn about what it takes to race & about the race cars also.(there is a lot to racing) l have had young guys start helping me & they have gone on to start racing themselves. l have also helped some of them get started with my old used parts & cars. l started with no money & just the will that l wanted to race. l worked hard on my first car over the winter & that spring l started racing only to find out that l needed to learn a lot of mechanical secrets. l went out & helped a top notch team for the rest of that season & learned a ton. l also made friends & paved ways of getting used parts cheap so l could race myself.Last but not least racing is very expensive, and the more money u have to spend the better u do.

Racing requires money. In ur situation, l would get in touch with a local amateur club & volunteer. In the US, the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) is a good place to start. They can always use more corner workers, & it is a good way to learn what a good line through a corner looks like. You did not say how old u are: Due to liability, nobody under 16 is allowed in the active race area (grid, hot pits, or track.) l think u could still work timing & scoring, though.

For now, go to races, walk around the pits, & talk to people. Make yourself known, & volunteer to help in any way. This will give u a much better idea of what you're getting into, & hopefully some people willing to help u out.
