NASCAR nixes GEM is move to Toyota? George Gillett, who bought into Ray Evernham is Dodge-anchor operation last year [now GEM], has made strong overtures to switch to Toyota. But NASCAR officials have apparently nixed any such move, and that could leave the Bill Davis Toyota team in limbo. Davis has talked for more than a year now about looking for a business partner. The Gillett-Evernham operation has been Dodge is chief engineering arm in NASCAR, but Penske may now get that nod, and become the engine supplier to teams like the Pettys. Penske already leases Dodge engines to Robby Gordon. Sources say that Penske, who runs one of the country is largest Toyota dealerships, in Los Angeles, has made overtures about Toyota, and may push for the launch of a satellite Toyota operation next year in order to be prepared for a possible changeover to Toyota in 2010.(Winston Salem Journal)(10-27-2008)

Excellent move by NASCAR. There doing what they should. Even though he is a minority owner now, Evernham brought Dodge back to Cup. More importantly, NASCAR knows it has to keep the manufacturer is diverse. In other words, nobody wants to see 43 Toyota is on the track.

The Penske thing is too contradicting to think about right now.

Nascar has no business telling teams what they can or can not do on the business side of things. Why would any team owner let someone outside of the company tell them they can or can not run a certain make of car when all the cars r basically the same apart from the engine? It does not make much sense for Nascar to even be a part of that decision. With everything that is happened in the last 2 months or so, l am seeing a big pattern of a conflict of interest between Nascar & Toyota.

Not sure what the reason NASCAR is using but since the other major company besides GM looking at Chrysler is Nissan & Renault group there is a good chance majority of cars on the track will be by foreign companies. And to try stop Toyota most likely at some point will end up in a lawsuit which NASCAR will back down from since they have no chance of winning cause Toyota got in under NASCAR is own rules.
