l mean these guys bust their butts all year and only have the pit crew challenge for them. Remember these guys are the mechanics and engine builders for the cars. They do not just change tires and fill it up. They build chassis and fab body work. They are the best in the world but seldom get the recognition for their talents. Any ideas? Well obviously they get paid well for their job. But what about trophies and interviews. You just do not see that. Here is Jimmie is team. They have shop jobs and track jobs. http://lowesracing.com/articles/view/381

l do not know if NASCAR itselfs honors the crews, maybe they do only it is not a public thing. If you look at it like they all do.it is their job. l think the size of their paychecks says it all.

You are right week after week the driver gets all the attention but without a good pit crew he would not be where he is. They do have the pit crew challenge and all that stuff during the all-star race in North Carolina and the best pit crew gets the prize. l think NASCAR.com has a voting at the end of the year for the best pit crew.

l know the winning crew gets to go to the big banquet at the Waldorf & they get nice bonuses as well. l do not think my wife will let me get the whole crew tattooed on my arm but l am planning some sort of a 48, Jimmie & Chad tattoo if they can win their 3rd champioship in a row. If they close the deal, Chad will be the FIRST crew chief to win 3 titles in a row & he is a HUGE part of Jimmie is success. They also have a great pit crew & various specialists (tire, chassis, suspension & so on). Racing is such a team sport, non fans just do not get all that goes on besides just the driving on the track. 3 STR8 N 08!!!

l think they take pretty good care of those guys. The get paid well and are right there in victory lane after the race..... l am kind of puzzled by what you are asking..What would you like them to do for them?

l am sure they get a paycheck every two weeks like the rest of us. Thats the only recognition l need. We're all working hard.

l get the feeling that the pit crews get all the honor they want & need when their driver wins the race. The pit crews on the top teams r very well-paid, & u know it must make their day when their driver wins & brags about his car & his pit stops. They do not seem to be in it for the glory. They're just happy to be a part of a winning team. Kudos to all of the pit crews - it is a difficult, dangerous, & often thankless job. But they deserve a big percentage of the credit for any driver is success.

l agree with maggie and mbl, they honor 'em the same way my company honers me for all the hard work l do, by paying them.

They do work hard and they get paid well for it. l do understand what you are saying though the drivers get all the press and nobody else is really acknowledged by the public. l would venture a guess that by watching the circus surrounding the drivers that none of them really care about the popularity contest. The money, camaraderie, competitiveness & thrill of the win is just fine with them.

l think their generous paychecks say it all. The drivers recognize their teams in interviews, and they do have their pit crew challenge for the over the wall guys. Not everybody that works their butts off get publicly recognized in any walk of life.

l think you are mistaken. l do not think the engine builder is gassing the car up on Sunday.
The pit crew is separate from the building team.
Although l agree that they all deserve recognition. But think of it this way, how well do you think Jimmie Johnson is team engine builder is paid? If you get the good reputation, you can write your own ticket.

l am sure they get bonuses and such when they place well...They also do the ''Pit crew Challenge'' during the All-star week. l wonder if they are recognized during the awards banquet for the top10 drivers in the series. l am pretty sure they do..

Yes!
This is a good question! I've been waiting for something like this..
They need to introduce the crews more often, like it was done by the NBC television crew

Amazing question. l think maybe it would be nice for them to say at the beginning of the Nascar race (last one Homestead) in Honor of the Pit crews who hold things together for the drivers. Like on TV saying it before the singing of our National Anthem. Then after the race each driver takes the pit crew out for one heck of a good time.

Well the Pit Crew Challenge is the most known form of recognition for the Pit Crews but there r weekly events for them as well. Back in 2003 (not sure if it continues today) there was a McDonald is sponsored Drive-Thru challenge. Essentially it was for the crew that had the fastest 4 tyre pit stop of a race. There r also other various awards for the pit crews as well during the course of a season & there r engine building competitions for the mechanics & engine builders as well (one named after the late Randy Dorton, (an engine builder for Hendrick Motorsports that died in a plane crash while heading to Martinsville in 2004))
