l am upset at Nascar, not because they ruled Smith did not win but because they ruled so quickly. Why did not they take 5 minutes and review the tape? Why did not the officials get together and talk about what happened. Even in sports without instant replay they at least have the officials get together.
Nascar once took 24 hours to determine a winner so it seems like they could take a few minutes to be sure they get it right.

l think that they sould have reviewd it. Reagan Smith was shoved below the line. If it would have been the other way around then Stewart would have turned right to take SMith out so he would not get shoved above the line. If not then NASCRAP would have gave Stewart the win.
NASCAR has gotten terrible over the past few years. The more and more l htink about it ''dirt is for racing and asphalt l for getting there'' seems to be true.

Not sure, l watch real sports that do not involve cars driving around in circles, and are based on human achievement.

If they decided that quickly l believe they know something we don't. But then again l am just a grown adult that is been watching this stuff for 30 years. Who knows Beth. l still believe that by dropping Smith to 18th we are missing something.
By the way way lucky that is one of the dumbest comments l have ever heard. You mean to tell me that propelling a human at 200 mph for 500 miles isn't? The stick and ball has not changed in 200 years. The automobile has.

they took a little time, but with the yellow line rule so firmly entrenched it did not take them that long. jeff gordon was just discussing this on windtunnel as he was one of the reasons the yellow line rule was imposed. as he said, he, & tony himself, would have held his car right on that line & if tony slid across his nose & spun into the infield, oh well. he also said that he was not surprised by the ruling because nascar has been very consistent about that rule in particular.

l agree. They were too quick to make a decision. The way l saw it was Regan was pushed below the yellow line. If that is illegal, then so be it but he should have never been placed in 18th spot. He should have gotten 2nd place. If he did slow down or stayed in his spot, he would have caused a huge wreck!

They did review it for a while. They didnt officially post who won the race till about 8:00. They didnt take 24 hours to review but they took some time.

the video showed it clearly that Tony was blocking & did force Reagan below the yellow line. Nascar has made another BIG mistake here. It seems to me Nascar has always looked out for their favorite Drivers & not the young not well know drivers. How can Nascar think that they will gain Fns if they allow things like this to happen. Tony is a very good driver do not get me wrong but Nascar should treat ALL drivers the same no matter if the r superstars or just starting out. what if that was tony is replacement driver Joey what would Nascar do. Joe Gibbs would have alot to say about that would not he. Nascar should have looked at this more clearly then they did.

omfg it dosent matter if he got pushed under the line or not he still has to give the position back or be penalized and Sense he didiint they put him in the back

Beth that just proves that NASCAR does not review tapes. l taped the pass on VCR & replayed several shots of the incident. While in slow motion advancing the frame one frame at a time u can see Regan is front bumper up to Tony is rear tire BEFORE they ever went below the line. Regan was in the process of making the pass & it was because Tony was blocking that Regan was forced below the line.
If someone watches it from regular speed then it is very difficult to notice because it was a split second. Still the fact remains like u said is they should have reviewed a tape. l have nowhere near the money that they have but l do have a way of reviewing the replays before l open my mouth about something.
l really wanted Tony Stewart to win. l like Tony Stewart. l even came close to posting a response before l knew for sure what actually happened. After reviewing the tape l realized that l am glad l did. NASCAR should do the same. Regan clearly won that race.

Yes that did upset me but l think Nascar did not take any time to review the tape because they obviously had already made up their mind that they wanted Stewart to win. They knew that Regan was the rightful winner of the race. l mean come on they actually mention in the truck race yesterday that what Regan did was legal. IDK what Nascar is problem is but l am getting sick of it. And anyone who says that Nascar was right & Regan was out of line needs to take a look at this.
Below yellow line at Daytona/Talladega OK on last lap: Drivers throughout the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series garage were still talking about last week is three-wide finish at Daytona International Speedway. While they admitted the finish was good for television, most wondered why NASCAR allowed Johnny Benson to drive below the yellow line - Daytona is out of bounds line - to jump from third to second in the final 200 yards. Benson was not penalized because ''if u can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes,'' according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns.(Augusta Chronicle)(2-24-2007)

Usually, the rule had been that u could go under the Yellow line, but could not pass under there, unless u were forced down there making a pass, & they would disregard the yellow line in the last turn & tri-oval. That is why Kyle Busch was not penalized in the Daytona 500. But at today is driver is meeting, they clearly stated that u could not get a full tire below the line. And even if u were forced down there, u had to back out if there was a gap, or maintain ur position, even if it was the last lap. Regan Smith made a pass when he was forced under the line, & was therefore disqualified. He should not have been relegated to 18th place, though.

There is no questioning it l feel the same way as you do. l do not believe that Regan Smith was passed the #20 car when he was below the yellow line and that he drove back on the track not infront of Stewart but right next to him. Nascar officals should have looked more closely at the tape and shoud not have given the win to Stewart without further examination.

l am going to say this again & l know that if it was my driver l would feel the same way. NASCAR HAS A RULE THAT SEPCIFICALLY STATES ''that if forced below the yellow line OR go below the yellow line YOU CANNOT G-A-I-N A-N-Y postion to win or any spot u stay where u r or u can lose spots. l however feel that what nascar did was right Because & l know what u r going to think BUT l HEARD nascar repeat that rule many times & said that if u r forced or go below that line & gain any position what so ever u will be fined.

Yeah, l am pissed they should have taken atleast 30 minutes to review the tape took more time, this should have been reviewed, But then maybe if Regan would not have gone below the yellow line that would have caused another big one, probably taken out enough drivers to where the guy they really wanted to win would have won (JJ).He was forced down there or there would have been another big one...Oh well on to the beast of the Southeast. Charlotte next weekend.. l agree l would gladly have waited 24 hrs for a winner this time.

Its shite that Stewart won.
IF STEWART WAS WHERE SMITH WAS, HE WOULDVE JUST SPUN HIM OUT. COS HE'S LIKE THAT.
At least Smith knows what to do next time. Nascars lost the plot. Just spin them, who cares good ol' Nascars gone.

l am very upset and my son found a phone # to Nascar headquarters in Daytona Beach. l left a message on their answering machine saying how l am boycotting next weeks race at Lowes. l hope many others do the same, because Ratings & Money count to Nascar and if ratings are hurt, than maybe they will reverse their politically correct ruling and let the real winner , Smith get his trophy!

It is because they have a few people that actually have the responsibility/job to watch the cars and make sure that they do not go below that yellow line and pass, if so the officials get on the radio immediately and then let the driver and crew chief know. They get a certain amount of time to give back the position but that was a good call by NASCAR by not letting Smith have time to get in depth with his celebration.

Here is the rest of the story that Rockin' did not post:
from NASCAR: Post-Race Comments from NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter Talladega Superspeedway, Oct. 5, ''You cannot improve ur position anytime u go below the yellow line. In our judgment, he (Regan Smith) improved his position & the penalty for that is a pass thru, so he was moved back to the tail end of the longest line or 18th position. At the driver is meeting, we clearly state that u cannot improve ur position by going below the yellow line. We do not feel he was forced below the yellow line. Anytime u get into a situation like this, there r going to be two different opinions. We respect Regan is view, but we made the call, we think it is the right call & the finish is final. NASCAR has to maintain some kind of control – & that is the reason we say, u cannot advance ur position by going below the yellow line. If he had not improved his position, he probably would have been awarded 2nd place.''(NASCAR)(10-5-2008)

okay.. so those cars have brakes. soooo. he could have slowed down. he was not 'forced out'.. forced out is side by side & the #1 guy slowly veers into him & sends him down.
of course in the last lap u do not want to let off the gas.. but he could have & just taken his place behind #1.. or tried to pass the legal way, on the outside. he was strategically trying the shorter route, but as the #1 car, u have the right to block.. & the #2 knew the consequences.
and as for the saying, it does not matter if mr. france himself says it.. it is just a saying. all the rules still apply. anyone who takes that seriously (like that one commentator) is an idiot.
and he was put in 18th place as per the rule. he gained a position therefore he lost a lap.
did the results suck. yes. but rules r rules.

Because when Nascar see is itself in 5 years. there is no Reagan Smith in it. But there is a Steward Haas Racing probably bringing 4 cars to the track every week.
